The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) has announced the registration of 35 expressions of interest in response to the call launched on 6 April 2020 for the allocation of temporary radio frequency spectrum that will enable telecom operators to cope with growing telecom traffic during the Confining periode.

These are International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) frequencies in the 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2600 MHz and 3500 MHz bands.

The telecoms regulator has announced that the results of the temporary frequency spectrum allocation operation will be known this week. The public body said it is currently analysing all applications to ensure compliance with the criteria and conditions of the regulation and to ensure that the release of these frequencies for use in emergencies is fair and non-discriminatory.
